On 16 December 2016, during a short stay in the Lake District, we unfortunately required the services of the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.

My wife had fallen and broken her ankle in two places.
Being unable to walk off the fell we had to call the mountain rescue team out.

The first member with us, Tim, stabilised her ankle.
When the remaining members arrived she was stretchered to the awaiting ambulance who then took her to Whitehaven hospital where she received further treatment.

We can’t express our gratitude to this team, the ambulance crew and the Doctors and Nurses at the hospital enough.

There are 12 teams in the Lakes, each with their own area or expertise. When necessary they work together and with other emergency services.
Each team is made up of selfless men and women, volunteers, who are ready in all weathers, day and night, to assist those in need in the Lake District.
